* Johann Sebastian Bach was born in Germany into a great musical family. His father, Johann Ambrosias Bach, was the director of the town musicians, and all of his uncles were professional musicians. His father probably taught him to play the violin and harpsichord, and his brother, Johann Christoph Bach, taught him the clavichord and exposed him to much contemporary music.
Bach attended St. Michael’s School in Lüneburg for two years. After graduating, he held several musical posts across Germany. He received the title of “Royal Court Composer” from Augustus III in 1736.

To a large extent Bach’s musical style fits in the conventions of his day, which is the final stage of the baroque style. When his contemporaries, such as Handel, Telemann and Vivaldi wrote concertos he did so too. When they wrote suites, he did so too.

J.S. Bach initialed many of his works with the letters, “SD” which stands for “Soli Deo gloria”, a Latin term for “Glory to God alone”. It signified that the work was written for the sake of praising God.
J.S. Bach’s health and vision began declining in 1749, and he passed away on July 28th, 1750.

I have performed these pieces over the past few years.  They are not advanced but each has its own technical challenges.

I will record them over as time allows, but I wanted to attach some music to this first album.  I settled for a less than ‘perfect’ recording of each.  I’ll record again as my playing and technique improves over time.

0 Spanish Moonlight

Eight Bach pieces I performed at "The Waters" senior living center in Plymouth.
